Compressors

Reciprocating compressors use a piston and valves to pump the refrigerant through the coils. This compressor contains about 15 components that work in conjunction to pump the refrigerant. These compressors have been around since the onset of the Industry.

Scroll compressors were first introduced into commercial equipment many years ago, and appeared in residential equipment about 10 years ago.

These compressors are more efficient, reliable, and have fewer moving parts. Only two gas compression parts are needed as compared to the 15 components required in a reciprocating compressor.

They do not contain pistons or valves which eventually break down, therefore making them the leading cause for compressor failure.

What Is "SEER"?

It stands for "Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio". That is the term that is used to describe efficiency ratings for air conditioning units.

Air conditioners range in efficiency from the minimum industry requirement of 10.0 SEER to the most efficient 17.1 SEER.

All new models are required to have a 10.0 SEER rating or better.
